What is an LMRA?
LMRA stands for last minute risk assessment. It is a short check you do yourself at the place of work, just before you start. You look at whether the situation is as expected, whether anything has changed and whether you can start safely. An LMRA does not replace work preparation or a task risk analysis; it is the final check, because the workplace at that moment can look different from what was on paper.
- By the person doing the work
- At the workplace, just before starting
- Short: a few minutes
The questions of an LMRA
Most LMRAs come down to the same few questions. The answer to the last one decides whether you start.
- What am I going to do, and do I know how?
- What do I see around me that is different from expected?
- What could go wrong, for me and for others?
- What do I do to prevent that?
- Can I start safely? If not: stop and report
Example: an LMRA checklist
An LMRA checklist like this helps you skip nothing. Adapt it to the work: work at height, in a confined space or on electrical installations each come with their own questions.
- Workplace: access, ground, lighting, tidiness
- Surroundings: traffic, colleagues or third parties nearby, weather
- Tools and equipment: inspected and in order
- Personal protective equipment: present and suitable
- Energy: installations switched off or released where needed
- Escape route and emergency number known
LMRA card or form
Many companies hand out an LMRA card that fits in a pocket, with the questions on it. That helps with remembering, but records nothing. Anyone who wants to see afterwards who did the LMRA, where and what was found records it on a form, on paper or in an app.
- Card: the questions always at hand
- Form: can be found afterwards
- A photo of the situation often says more than text
The LMRA as a form in the app
In Celtucom you build your own LMRA checklist as a form, without code. Questions that only apply to certain work appear only when they are needed, and the employee adds photos and a signature. The form also works without signal and is sent as soon as there is a connection again. With smart groups you set up the right checklist for one crew or role. See how forms work on digital forms, and for the conversation about working safely with the whole crew, see the toolbox talk.
